MIRS and Gongwer Pick Up WMP's Story Regarding Racist Anti-Snyder Ad, Team Snyder Calls Ad "Desperate, Baseless Lies"

MIRS and Gongwer, Michigan's top two political publications (along with Inside Michigan Politics) recently picked up on WMP's story regarding the disgusting, racist ad from the Michigan Dems.

Snyder's team called the ad for what it was:

"Snyder campaign spokesperson Emily Benavides blasted the ad as "more desperate and baseless lies from Mark Schauer in order to distract voters from his new job-killing tax proposal on small businesses," according to Gongwer.

However:

"Democrats have placed a huge emphasis on turning out the Democratic base to vote this year, and Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Josh Pugh defended the ad."

Pugh opined:

"You won't see the Michigan Democratic Party running from the fact that when Michiganders vote, Democrats win," (Pugh) said. "All over this state, Democrats stayed home in droves in 2010. We've seen what happens when we lose. Rick Snyder's agenda has been disastrous for families and seniors, and we will continue to aggressively hold him accountable for his out of touch record."

Linda Lee Tarver, a well-known GOP activist and recent candidate for the State Board of Education, was disgusted by the ad, writing on Facebook:

"Desperation does not equate to votes. You can play the race card but African-Americans are not buying it.

Democrat Governor Granholm promoted and Schauer voted for the ‘job killing’ African-American hurting, burdensome tax called Driver Responsibility Fees – Republicans and Governor Snyder eliminated them.

Democrat Governor Granholm eliminated school initiated driver education hurting mostly African-American and Hispanic youth. Schauer was in the (LEGISLATURE) and said NOTHING! Before the Democrats killed driver education, all youth (regardless of income) could learn a life skill of driving and gain employment.

Schauer and Democrats fought against School of Choice. Republican Governor signed school of choice into law that allowed ME (an African-American mom) to live in a failing school district but send my children to a better school.

Democrats fought against lifting the ‘cap’ of charter schools in Detroit. Republicans and Governor Snyder lifted the ban.

Democrat Governor Blanchard SIGNED the Emergency Financial Manager law in 1988. Under Democrat Governor James Blanchard, two emergency managers were appointed, and under Democrat Governor Jennifer Granholm, seven emergency managers were appointed. In fact, Governor Granholm appointed the first emergency manager for Detroit Public Schools in 2009. Democrat Governor Granholm installed EFMs in: Three Oaks, Detroit, Benton Harbor, and three EFMs in Pontiac.

I am doing my best to hold back how I truly feel – but, don’t get it twisted, little black girls don’t need to be afraid of my governor, she needs to be afraid of apathetic, truly pathetic, abortion-loving, black-genocide promoting...Democrats who force these little girls to go to a school unfit for Michael Vic’s dogs and who turn a blind eye to issues she will face growing up.

These same Democrats will wait until this scared little black girl is 18 years of age and eligible to vote before they pretend to be on her side. A lie on a mailer is still a lie!"

Gongwer: Dem Ad: Snyder Wrong For African Americans

The Michigan Democratic Party began running an advertisement this week in African-American newspapers blasting Republican Governor Rick Snyder as having "the wrong priorities for African Americans in Michigan."
Republicans denounced the ad, which features a dour looking Mr. Snyder and an alarmed-looking African American child.
The ad sounds many of the same themes Democrats have pressed against Mr. Snyder, but tailors some of those messages specifically to black voters, a critical Democratic constituency.
For example, it accuses Mr. Snyder of cutting $1 billion from K-12 schools, a major theme of the Democratic campaign, but also says "Michigan's African American fourth-graders are dead last in the country in reading achievement."
The ad criticizes Mr. Snyder's move to set up the Education Achievement Authority to run the most troubled schools in Detroit.
And it denounces Mr. Snyder's emergency manager law, PA 436 of 2012, as having taken "away our right to democracy" and that Mr. Snyder named political appointees who "took over African-American communities."
Snyder campaign spokesperson Emily Benavides blasted the ad as "more desperate and baseless lies from Mark Schauer in order to distract voters from his new job-killing tax proposal on small businesses."
Mr. Schauer recently discussed the idea of extending the Corporate Income Tax to the 95,000 businesses not now paying the tax and lowering the 6 percent rate, but backpedaled with his campaign saying it was merely a hypothetical idea.
Democrats have placed a huge emphasis on turning out the Democratic base to vote this year, and Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Josh Pugh defended the ad.
"You won't see the Michigan Democratic Party running from the fact that when Michiganders vote, Democrats win," he said. "All over this state, Democrats stayed home in droves in 2010. We've seen what happens when we lose. Rick Snyder's agenda has been disastrous for families and seniors, and we will continue to aggressively hold him accountable for his out of touch record."

MIRS:

Dem Ad: Snyder Has 'Wrong Priorities For African Americans'

Alleging that Gov. Rick SNYDER has the "wrong priorities for African Americans," a new print advertisement from the Michigan Democratic State Central Committee is drawing attention this week.

The half-page ad, which MIRS verified has appeared in at least one print publication, has a photo of Snyder and a photo of an African American child. Between the images, the ad says, "Rick Snyder doesn't stand for us."

Under that header, the ad details a series of policies as evidence, and then it says, "Rick Snyder has the wrong priorities for African Americans in Michigan."

A disclaimer at the bottom of the ad says it was paid for by the Michigan Democratic State Central Committee.

Eric BROWN, a Detroit native who hosts an online radio show, spoke out against the piece on social media earlier this week.

"This is without a doubt the most vile, despicable, untruthful & pathetic ad I have ever seen," Brown posted on Wednesday.

"As an African-American person what really took me aback was the last bullet in the . . . advertisement," Brown said today of the line "Rick Snyder has the wrong priorities for African Americans in Michigan."

Brown said he obtained the piece through an email from someone else this week. According to Brown, the Democrats sent the advertisement to various African American periodicals across the state. At least one, Brown said, declined to run the ad.
